A black body is defined as an object that absorbs all external radiant energy and simultaneously radiates all its own energy.

The emissivity of the artificial blackbody is close to, but not equal to, 1.

As a standard radiation source, the standard black body is mainly used to calibrate radiation thermometers, infrared thermometers and radiation temperature sensing detectors.
